Give single mothers a future!

Success story Franka...

Franka's former partner left her after he tried to sacrifice her only son for ritual purposes. She managed to escape and start a new life. With our help, she started a small business and initially sold a small amount of food at the market. Thanks to further business training, Franka was able to expand her business and increase her sales. She now regularly supplies several restaurants with food. In addition to her success as an entrepreneur, Franka is also one of the leaders of the women's shelter, where she is actively involved in supporting other women.

In Uganda, many single mothers face significant challenges. Without support from the fathers of their children, financial assistance from their families, or state security, they often struggle to survive. To offer these women hope, we provide startup capital that enables them to launch small businesses. This support helps them generate a stable income over time, allowing them to care for and provide for their families.
The microloans provided to women are tailored to the specific needs of their business projects, with the maximum loan amount being around 120 euros. These loans are repaid over a fixed period, allowing the funds to be reinvested into future initiatives. Currently, the program focuses on supporting single mothers in northern Uganda, helping them establish small businesses, earn a stable income, and provide for their families. This approach empowers women economically and contributes to their long-term financial independence.
Empowerment for single mothers!

A local social worker identifies single mothers through various methods to provide them with access to start-up capital. These methods include community recommendations, referrals from local organizations, and direct outreach through targeted discussions and visits to the relevant areas. The goal is to connect with women who meet the criteria for receiving funding and who are capable of developing a sustainable future. By working closely with local networks and understanding the specific needs of the women, the program ensures that the assistance reaches those who can truly benefit and make lasting changes in their lives.
Once selected, the women are trained in key business topics such as financial planning, accounting, marketing and costing. As part of this training, they draw up a simple business plan that describes the business idea, the costs, possible risks, the repayment period, the expected income and entrepreneurial strengths.

The completed business plans are reviewed by employees in Uganda and Germany and either approved or rejected. If the start-up capital is approved, the women receive regular coaching from the local social worker during the repayment period. Successful projects can also apply for a further loan to expand their business.

Success story Prossy...

Prossy is a single mother of three children. Her parents were killed by the LRA and the father of her children abandoned her. In 2017, our project gave her the opportunity to start a business selling second-hand clothes. With a great deal of dedication and perseverance, she expanded the business and became increasingly successful. Today, Prossy has employed several women to sell clothes for her in various villages, while she herself runs her own painting business in Gulu. From the profits of the last few years, she has been able to buy two small plots of land and build her own house. Prossy now earns enough to provide for her family, pay her children's school fees and give them a secure future.
